The GG1 Historic Locomotive Preservation Society is now constructing a museum in sunny South Florida . Although the GG1 locomotives where native to the North East part of the U.S., Florida has become the playground of the U.S. stretching from Orlando to the Florida Keys. The year around great weather makes for an ideal location for museums, sports, concerts and all kinds of public events and points of interest.

The museum will occupy a 10,000 square foot building with over one hundred working displays, a simulator, and a theater.

We are estimating a total cost of about a half million dollars for the initial construction. About twenty-five percent will go to acquiring the 4917 GG1 and prepping it for the move to South Florida. Another twenty percent will be for the cosmetic restoration of the 4917.

About thirty percent will go into the steel building, concrete floors, and inside walls. The remaining amount is for the various displays and exhibition equipment.

So far, about ten percent of the funds needed for the project have already been raised and many of the artifacts for the museum have already been acquired. Some of the pieces to date have only been partially paid for however, and additional funds are much needed to complete the various acquisitions.

We appreciate and recognize all donation regardless size. However, we desperately need larger donations of $500, $1,000, $5,000, and even $10,000 to keep the project moving. We could also use a few major donations to finish the complete project.

All donations are tax deductible as we are a 501C3 non-profit. Large donors will see their names on our HALL OF FAME roster.

We realize that during these difficult economic times that grants and corporate sponsors are not always available to help projects such as this, therefore we are counting on people just like you to step up to the challenge to save the last of these fantastic locomotives from the scrap yard. Of the original 138, there are only 16 left.
